If you’ve looked at a few photographer’s websites, you’ve probably read lots about how they picked up their first camera at eight years old, love people watching, are ever-so-passionate about photography and influenced by the godlike Henri Cartier-Bresson.

So the challenge I guess is for us to tell you some stuff about us that’s slightly more relevant!

Well, I'm writing this, so I guess I go first! My name’s Russ Pullen, and together with Claire Sullivan I run Level Eleven Photography. We're full-time, specialist wedding photographers working throughout the south-east of England, though we do undertake a limited number of national and international weddings each year.

For my own part, I'm proud to say I have no formal qualifications and have no plans to ever enter a competition! I’m confident in my abilities as a photographer, I’m creative and relaxed whilst working, able to adapt to any situation, group or wedding day challenge. I always deliver images our clients rave about, which is much more satisfying than receipt of a camera club certificate judged by a man who’s never heard of an Ipod and thinks that ‘digital will never replace film.’ The recommendations we receive every day say a lot more about how we treat client's and the images we produce.

But - just to prove our diversity, Claire totally disagrees with my position on qualifications! She joined Level Eleven with membership of the Master Photographers Association and truly values the qualifications she has. With over 10 years full-time experience, she has photographed hundreds of weddings, portraits, maternity, baby bumps and pets. She specialises in the use of natural daylight and has a very elegant and sophisticated look to her images and album designs.

My wife Emma works in the business - behind the scenes to a degree - making sure everything gets done when it should and keeping clients up to date with album designs and revisions. We undertake no more than 40 weddings a year, from over 350 enquiries. Any more would mean that the standard of service we strive to offer could begin to slip.

So here’s where we differ slightly from the crowded marketplace. Unlike many wedding photographers, we’re not scared to direct images and much of our influence comes from fashion and editorial photography. We truly believe that you want to look great on the wedding day, so alongside the storytelling images we take throughout the day, we also use great light and locations to produce natural looking, yet directed images of you, your guests and wedding party.

Sometimes, reality needs a little nudge to make it a great photograph!

To that end, we always take you out on a pre-wedding shoot before the wedding day – this gets you used to be photographed ‘Level Eleven style’ and means we’re not just strangers on your wedding day – you’ll be more relaxed which leads to much more natural images – our pictures are always full of life.
